The second Annual Printmakers Festival

The second Annual Printmakers Festival commenced on September 5th at the Georgina Centre for Arts and Culture, bringing together a diverse array of talent in the realm of fine art printmaking. This year's collective exhibition showcases the intricate and evocative works of esteemed artists, including Ron Baird, Rashmi Baird, Sarah Cowley, Sergei Firer, Ted Fullerton, Fred Hagan, Stanley Lewis, JJ Martyn, Charles Pachter, Viktor Tinkl, and George Walker. Each artist contributes a unique voice to the exhibition, offering a rich tapestry of styles, techniques, and perspectives that span the spectrum of contemporary printmaking.

The exhibition is a celebration of the printmaking craft, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with works that explore various themes, from the deeply personal to the broadly cultural. The festival not only highlights the technical mastery involved in printmaking but also the creative expression that defines each piece.

Running through November 3rd, the festival includes several key events that invite deeper engagement with the artists and their work. An artist reception will be held on September 22nd from 12 to 2 pm, providing a chance for attendees to meet and converse with the featured artists in a relaxed setting. Additionally, Viktor Tinkl will offer insights into his work on October 6th, 12pm-2pm and Curator's Walk and Talk is scheduled for October 20th, with curator Charlote Hale offering more insights into the exhibition's themes and artistic significance. This event is a must-see for art enthusiasts and collectors alike, as it presents a rare opportunity to experience the works of some of the most prominent figures in contemporary printmaking in Canada.

B.A.C Raffle at Sunderland & Beaverton Fall Fair 2024

Stop by Brock Arts & Culture booth at the Sunderland Fall Fair on September, 10 -11, 2024 or at the Beaverton Fall fair September 13-14, 2024 to fill out a ballot to win this beautiful painting by Brock Artist Sheila Davis.

Sheila Davis is an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists, the Ontario Society of Artists and a Signature Status member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, Sheila’s work has been featured in magazines, on television and is included in private and corporate collections around the world. She is represented by various galleries throughout Canada and participates in select exhibitions throughout the year.

Sheila is inspired by the friction and play of textures where surface planes meet. The tangled under growth competing for light and space. A play of forces, where colour and temperature meld or clash for dominance - a battle of the elements, Earth, Sky, Water and all they encompass. She believes an Artist interprets best what they know intimately…what surrounds them personally and they touch daily… what influences on a deep emotional level either conscious or unconscious. For her this is the untouched Ontario landscape… tangled, unfettered and unfinished…a work in progress, constantly growing and striving towards light, strength and freedom from constraint.(www.sheiladavis.ca)

A special thanks to artist Sheila Davis for her support and generous donation of this 12x12 painting on wood panel, value $450.00 for this raffle.

Osborne Dental Office & Clinic

It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Osborne Dental Office & Denture Clinic to the Brock Arts & Culture ArtHost program. Their participation signifies a strong commitment to fostering a vibrant community and supporting the arts in our region. We are especially thrilled to feature Cria Pettingill’s artwork as the inaugural exhibit in this ArtHost Space. Cria’s work brings a fresh and inspiring perspective that perfectly aligns with our mission to celebrate creativity and artistic expression. This collaboration marks the beginning of what we hope will be a long and fruitful partnership, bringing art closer to the community and enhancing the cultural landscape of our area. We are excited to see how this new ArtHost Space will evolve and look forward to many more inspiring exhibits in the future.

Val Roach

My artistic journey began as a way to teach my children the importance of creative expression when

they were young. What started as a personal project to inspire and educate them soon blossomed into a deep and enduring passion. I primarily work with acrylics, painting a diverse array of themes, each piece reflecting the essence of everyday life as I perceive it. My hope is to invite audiences of all ages to view the world through a fresh lens, encouraging others to explore their own creativity.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to paint and cherish these moments. However, I am acutely aware that not everyone shares this privilege, particularly the families at The Hospital for Sick Children. After spending time at the hospital and observing families like my own facing unimaginable challenges, I was moved to ensure that my art embodies hope, kindness, and the resilience of the human spirit.

There are battles that a paintbrush alone cannot fight, which is why I offer my artwork in exchange for donations. Together, through these contributions, we can bring a bit more light into the lives of these families, one brushstroke at a time.

All proceeds from the sale of my paintings are donated to The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation.

Blossom Trail Walk and Talk

Such an interesting and inspiring "Walk and Talk" we had on July 18, 2024.  Sarah Cowley addressed

about 20 guests, highlighting a bit about herself and The Blossom Trails.  She studied and worked in Horticulture for over 30 years but primarily with the growing of vegetables.  Sarah even spent some time in India working in Agriculture so the knowledge she shared with us today was very inspiring and of great value to her audience.  She walked us through every part of the installation from the start once she got approval to the finish. Then the real work began with the planting of the Service Berry Trees. She did have a group of volunteers who helped with the initial plantings of the Trees and we were all so pleased with ourselves when we saw the trees in flower the following Spring and each year since planting but there is still a great deal of work that goes into native gardening; You can’t just “set it and forget it” even though nature is very resilient and takes care of itself.  You do have to monitor for invasive species that make their way into these natural corridors and you have to remove them or they can take over and choke out all of your hard work if you aren’t on top of them.

I know Sarah would be thrilled if anybody felt up to helping with the maintenance of the gardens and If you are so inclined, please reach out to her.
